Today was my friends birthday and she is a Power Rangers fan. Especially the Black Ranger (wink wink). So for a gift I did up a Power Ranger themed mug using my ecraft cutter *cheesy grin, cue jingle*. I simply located an image of the Black Ranger’s insignia. Opened that image in Adobe Photoshop. Once there I did a live trace of the image to make it into a vector. A little bit of clean up here and there with some curve corrections and I had a good vector of the logo. The next steps were to simply export the file as an SVG, import it into the cutting software, and do a cut. I used some adhesive vinyl to do all my masks. I find that you need to tape it to a sheet of paper to give it more stability and cut on a 1 or a 1.5 setting. It all depends on the sharpness of the cutters blade. After I cleaned glass and dried it including rubbing it down with some alcohol and using a lens cloth to get any left over lint. I placed the sticker-like vinyl and used an Xacto knife to help remove the areas I wanted to etch. Then I used Martha Stewart Etching Cream it needs to be on the surface for only 15 mins. Once the time is up you just wash the cream off the glass in water remove the stencil and re-wash. I does a pretty good job without needing to sand blast the glass.
I have provided the vector logo I created for the stencil for you to download if you want to give it a try for yourself. If you do I would love to see the results.
